Frequently Asked Questions

Do you deliver/ship flowers to Virginia? (Or North Carolina, California, Canada…)
Being focused on sustainability also means keeping a watchful eye on our carbon footprint. Unfortunately, that means no delivering fresh blooms outside of a few local miles. Some everlasting pieces like crowns and wreaths may be considered for delivery; please inquire if you’re looking for that.

I thought florists were eco-friendly. Why focus so much on sustainability?
The floral industry is actually far from green what with so much waste, use of plastics (think of that squishy green floral foam), and transportation across the globe. Did you know the vast majority of flowers used in the industry are not grown in the US? The carbon footprint is enormous and we are committed to reducing our contribution wherever we can.

How do I select a price/size?
This is probably the most common question we get from our customers and part of why we outlined various budget options on the ordering page. Please keep in mind our pricing includes delivery, unlike many other florists. Our smallest arrangements are petite (vases often fit in your palm) and great for little pick-me-ups like letting someone know you’re thinking of them or thanking someone for that kind thing they did. Mid-range arrangements (around $100 to $175) will provide more blooms and a larger impact; these are great for events like birthdays, wishing for someone to get well, and sending sympathy after a loss. Lastly, if you’re looking to express your feelings on a grand scale we suggest arrangements from $200 and up. For custom designs above $300 please reach out directly.

What if I want specific flowers/colors?
Not a problem! For most orders, customers like to let us choose what is freshest and will create a beautiful design. That said, if you have any specific flowers you’d like included or a palette you’re aiming for please let us know and we will do our best to make it happen.

How much do wedding florals really cost?
Great question! There are so many opinions out there and no truly universal guide. Here at Rowdy Poppy we are committed to working with any budget you have. In addition, we do not upcharge simply because the flowers are for a wedding. Our wedding floral services generally range from about $500 for an elopement package to $15,000 for a full-service wedding. A few things to keep in mind when establishing your flower budget:

  • Flowers are more expensive than the average person knows. Local and sustainably-grown blooms cost even more because of the enormous amount of time, energy, and care that goes into growing these special flowers while also providing farm workers living wages.

  • Be willing to be flexible. If you must have lush garden roses, then you will have to pay more. If you must stay within a certain budget, then you may have to strike out a floral ceremony arch. We are here to help guide you in every step and suggest ways to get the most impact.

  • In order to remain aligned with our sustainability goals and reduce our carbon footprint, we require a $4,000 minimum for weddings or events more than 40 miles from our location. Still really want to work together but have a tight budget? Let’s talk pick up options!

How come your flowers have so much fragrance compared to grocery store flowers?
Our flowers are grown here from seed and tended to with love. We don’t use harsh pesticides and they are always freshly harvested. The flowers you see in grocery stores are most often shipped from thousands of miles away, grown on farms of massive scale who use all kinds of chemicals, and often have fragrance bred out of them. These differences in sourcing and growing really impact the overall flower quality. Think of it this way: it’s like the difference between a pale, watery, mass produced grocery store tomato and a rich, juicy, locally grown heirloom – there’s just no comparison.
